Funiculus v 0.42

| | Comments (7) | TrackBacks (0)
Funiculus version 0.42 can be downloaded here: funiculus_0_42.zip
It will most likely be on Installer soon.

IMG_0287.JPGNew features:
- A new algorithm...more accurate note detection
- New graphics on the main screen
-The title screen now has a macron in it to emphasize the Latin aspect of the title.

To install manually:
Download the new version and unzip it on your hard drive.  Inside will be a directory called Funiculus.app.  Use an SSH program to copy it into your iPhone's Applications directory.  Also use the SSH program to set the permissions to 755 (or anything with read and execution access) on both the "Funiculus.app" folder and the "funiculus" executable inside of it.

Known issues:
  • The home button is very sluggish.  Note: you should NOT use the home button to exit the program.  For reasons currently unknown, this doesn't shut down the audio all the way, and could leave a thread running in the background.  If you do accidentally exit by the home button, you can either reopen Funiculus and use the "Exit" button, or you can run another program that uses sound...e.g. NES or Garf.   Using the "Exit" button does not have this problem.
  • If some type of sound is played (e.g. incoming text) while running Funiculus, the program will lose access to the microphone.  You will have to exit and rerun the program.
  • The pitch meter has sort of an optical illusion thing going on...at least for me.
  • The manual string-by-string mode is clunky...this will soon be replaced by a new system of selecting strings.

Note about Automode:
The note displayed is not necessarily the one the string is being tuned against.  Even if it displays the wrong note, the tuning meter should still be accurate.

Nice...I think the main screen wood and plastic look great. How did you do the plastic part?

My original idea was to put the "f" in Funiculus as the "f-hole" on a guitar, but then I threw a pick-guard looking thing. For the main screen, I wanted to simulate a tuner built-in to the side of a guitar (the darker colored part), but it's difficult to do that. And I'm not great with graphics...

By the way, anybody who needs to email me can send a mail to JLA at this website.

Hi,
I really love the idea of your app although it never worked for me :(
I have iPhone 1.1.3 and everything seems fine except it does not seem to be
getting any sound from the Mic.
Is there a setting or something I'm missing?
Thanks for ur help

Once I forgot to "exit" the program before I trun off the phone (to standby mode), I found that the iphone battery drained off rapidly (even worse than leaving the Wifi Enable in Background)

Yeah, it's important to remember to exit manually because for some reason unknown to me, the app doesn't respond (or doesn't receive) the normal indications that the system is going to sleep. (Note that the home button doesn't respond on time, and when it does, it bypasses the regular shutdown process). In the meantime, for the next version, I'm probably going to institute some auto-shutoff mechanism, where if it doesn't receive any (finger) activity in 2 min, it will automatically exit.
